ROADS TAKEN

As the New Year unfolds, I wonder what roads await me and where they will take me. Many have been exhilarating and beautiful. I’m sure there will be wonderful surprises as well as disappointments and detours because that is the adventure called life. Let’s hope that the roads of the past will help us choose future ones wisely.

Rita Mosiman Presents … At Sunset

AT SUNSET

Capturing a spectacular sunset with my camera makes it now last longer than the fleeting moments when it sunk before my eyes.  My heart softens as I look at the pastels and the reflection of the sun’s warmth in the cold water.  Just as when I was actually there, I can feel the breeze and smell the fresh air.  This gift of nature presents a moment to reflect upon the day, the year, or our lives, allowing us to appreciate whatever treasures they have held. Rita Mosiman Presents … Renewal

Icicle

RENEWAL

The icicle, through which we almost see, is a stunning treat along the trail at winter time.  Its beauty amidst mostly barren trees will pass, just as the old year, too, is passing.  In its place, will be other artistic surprises to intrigue our eyes and renew our souls as the New Year moves on.  Each path taken, each season, each year has its own rewards.  Old and new joys, alike, await us to embrace.  It’s time to reflect and to look forward. Rita Mosiman Presents … Hint of Color

A hint of color

A HINT OF COLOR

Life peeks through the layer of snow, life that is desperately dependent upon getting enough water in the high desert.  As it drinks its water, it also displays its art with a hint of color and gentle patterns.

The blustery winds of the storm have settled down, and my eyes enjoy gazing upon this soft plant in the still air. I think of human beings trying to meet their needs for survival.  I think of the emotional storms in life that hopefully arrive at quiet resolution.  I think about the interrelationship of all living things.  I think about the hopes of peace throughout the world.

PRISTINE SNOW

The pristine snow invites me to walk, but if I do, it won’t be pristine anymore.  Still, if I don’t, someone else will, or the sun will soon melt it.  It looks truly lovely untouched.  The day is still, the air crisp.  Winter days can seem dreary as the season wears on, but nature provides us beautiful scenes in all seasons.  I think I’ll leave the snow untouched so that hopefully someone else who might venture out on this cold day will be warmed by it.

Rita Mosiman Presents … A New Look

A New Look

I awoke to the first good snow fall and excitedly grabbed my camera and raced outside.  I knew the familiar would be transformed, and I wasn’t disappointed!  As I walked through the quiet, these cacti appeared, greatly contrasting with the soft snow.  They hadn’t caught my attention much before, as they blended into their surroundings, but now their color and form were sharply defined.  Wow!  I felt fortunate to see them before the sun changed the scene.  Just as we take for granted our usual haunts, nature gifts us her surprises.   Taking a second look at the familiar in our lives is often worthwhile! Rita Mosiman Presents … Magnificent Cottonwoods

MAGNIFICENT COTTONWOODS

As we flow through life’s path, we’re often fortunate to connect with a glorious moment in nature.  The lovely golden colors of the magnificent cottonwoods along the Rio Grande reach up toward an incredibly blue sky.  The sculpture of tree limbs made prominent against the light color of the leaves create fantastic contrasts.  I want to spend time lying under these grand trees, looking up at the patterns they form against and with the sky.   I hope you, too, are finding glorious moments in nature. Rita Mosiman Presents … Walls

Photography and prose by Rita Mosiman

WALLS

The rock wall, lovingly formed, attracts my eyes with its embellishment of snow.  I think of how skilled the hands were that created it.  I wonder what kind of soul directed those hands. Suddenly my mind shifts to walls, in general.  There are so many types.  Some walls are retaining.  Some divide property—and people. Sometimes it’s good when a wall comes down. Some walls are emotional, seeming to protect us from hurt. Some are made to be solely beautiful. Maybe it’s good for us to notice what kind of walls we’ve created in our lives. Continue reading

Rita Mosiman Presents… Warm Light

WARM LIGHT

Warm light and subtle color bring a soft appearance to the rugged mountains.   What a gift!  I had been scurrying all day to get done more than was possible in a day, feeling a bit frustrated.  In the midst of this unexpected sight, the frustration left me.  What did it matter that I didn’t get to everything?  Aren’t lists never ending anyway?   Let’s soak in the beautiful moments when we find them!

Rita Mosiman Presents – Aspen

ASPEN

Aspen, initiating color change, carpets the rugged Sandia mountain peaks.  Only a short drive and a two mile hike separates me from urban sprawl below.  The view is always breathtaking, but the fall weather,  lighting and autumn hues make it even more so.  I’m always amazed by the contrast of the rugged rock being softly hugged by the aspen display.  The affect on me is a soothing one, putting everything in balance.  I hope that you, too, are taking a moment to reflect in nature.
