Some girls dream about Prince Charming.

Book Talk with Jude Ouvrard

Who is Jude Ouvrard?

Jude Ouvrard is a mom, a girlfriend, a sister, and a daughter… well, you get the idea.

She’s also an avid reader and writer. Ouvrard loves books–the words in them, and the worlds of fantasy they create. Basically, she’s a sucker for any type of romance book. That’s her thing.

Born and raised in a small village in the Canadian countryside, it’s been nearly two decades since she moved out of the family home to go explore and enjoy the city life. Living with her longtime boyfriend, their son, and their fur babies in Montreal, her days are labored away at a law firm while she lives her dream job by night. Writing. Creating. Giving shape and form to the characters who whisper their stories in her head.

Ouvrard writes new adult, military, and contemporary romance tales filled with drama, love, and everything in between.

What inspired you to write this book [Little White Lies]?

I wanted to write a story that was believable and had some layers to it. Many years ago, I traveled to Utah and this trip inspired me with the main character. She is from Salt Lake City, and his from a religious family. I don’t mention the religion, that’s intentional but it helped creating a backstory.

What can we expect from you in the future?

A sequel, Hidden Truths. After that, I don’t know yet.

How did you come up with name of this book?

I had a hard time with the title of this book. I changed it a couple of times.

What is your favorite part of this book and why?

The Halloween party at the pub. This is where it all begins. It’s fun, sexy and also full of drama.

If you could spend time with a character from your book who would it be? And what would you do during that day?

Xander. I love him. He is funny, a good dancer, cute and I don’t know. I had a lot of fun writing him.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

They all come from my imagination. I try not to base my characters off someone I know in real life. It could end up complicated. I don’t know. I try not to do it.

Do your characters seem to hijack the story, or do you feel like you have the reigns of the story?

I write as I go. I never have a plan when I start a book. The characters lead the way but at the same time, I still have the last word. Sometimes, I change my mind in the process or I don’t like the direction the story is going in and I start over the chapter. I read and reread my story as often as needed to keep in mind every little detail.

Convince us why you feel your book is a must read.

Because it’s my best one. Trust me. My editor will agree too. I think this one reflects everything I wanted from the start. Get it now 🙂

If your book had a candle, what scent would it be?

Humm, it would be a nature type of scent or something super girly. I’m not sure. That’s a tough question.

What did you edit out of this book?

The epilogue is now the first chapter of book 2. That’s all I can think of right now. Continue reading

Now he’s back in my life. He says we’ll be friends. It’s been a long time. I can forgive, but I can’t seem to forget. The taste of his lips, the sound of his groans in my ears, those calloused fingers between my legs– I’m going out of my mind remembering all the pleasure he brought me.

Worse, I keep thinking how happy he made me.

I can’t fall back in love with Ethan. It doesn’t matter how badly I crave his gorgeous blue eyes, his tattooed arms, and his strong guitarists’ hands. It doesn’t matter that his smile still lights me up inside. It doesn’t matter that I need him like I need oxygen.

Excerpt

“I’m sorry about your hand,” I said. He threw his jacket over one of the couches and sat on the other. His eyes dropped to my arm, which I was subconsciously rubbing.

“Did he hurt you?” He wasn’t mad, this time—he was worried.

I tried to hide my smile and shook my head. “Not really. I bruise easily.”

He jumped to get closer. “Bruise?” He pulled my wrist and turned my arm to check the damage. It was red. Maybe I wouldn’t get a bruise, but his face made me smile.

“I’m not dying, Keith. He was just an ass.”

“I told you to go with your brother.” He sat again. “Did you have fun, at least?”

“Not really. I guess I didn’t drink enough.” I shrugged, not feeling drunk anymore.

“You really shouldn’t have told me that.” He jumped from the couch and disappeared into the kitchen. I heard a couple of cabinet doors opening and closing and then glasses clinking.

Keith came back with a bottle under his arm, two glasses in one hand, and a lime cut in two and salt in the other.

I wasn’t experienced, but I knew what that meant. “Tequila? Do you think it’s wise?”

“This night wasn’t supposed to be about being wise. It’s just the two of us: you won’t get in trouble.” He paused for a second, staring at the walls in deep thought. He then placed the ingredients on the coffee table. “We won’t get too drunk. Do you know how to drink this?”

I nodded. I’d never tasted it, but I saw it in the movies. The first one burned, and the second did, too. I stopped, while Keith kept pouring shots for himself.

After the first shot, Keith had turned the TV to a music channel. He had turned it up a couple of times, since. We were laughing at each other’s faces. Of course, he was used to it, but I saw the glimmer in his eyes. We were both drunk. The first time I had ever gotten drunk was with Keith Hale. Who would have guessed?

“You should go to sleep,” he slurred, pushing me to the stairs. “Your brother would kill me if he showed up right now.”

“Really?” I stumbled on almost every step. Keith grabbed my waist every time and released me after I steadied myself, only to stumble again. I repeated the word because it was funny in my tongue. “Really?” He laughed behind me.

“Yeah…” He was also dragging his words. “Thanks.”

“For what?” I had reached my door and turned to say good night.

He struggled for the words. His smile disappeared and he took so long to say anything that I was considering forgetting the question and going to my room. Then he grabbed my face with his hands.

Mari Denae Reawakened Secrets

Author Mari Denae talks about secrets or the unknown.

One of the main topics in Reawakened Secrets, to be released on October 26th, is secrets or the unknown. Here is some bonus material from the view point of the heroine, Claire Brown.

My entire life has revolved around secrets, questions… the unknown. I was unwanted, deserted by my sperm donor before I was even born. Unknown identity.

I grew up in the servant’s quarters at Haven Hill. My only friends were Alice Sinclair and Jackson Montgomery. As children of old money, they were born and bred to be king and queen of the affluent circle I was forced to tolerate. Unknown future.

For a girl with a genius IQ, I’ve been really stupid. Stupid enough to fall in love with Jackson, and desperate enough to hide it from Alice even though she loved him too. Then, one moment of weakness left Alice in a coma and drove Jackson to abandon me without even so much as a fucking goodbye. I’ve had radio silence from both of them for the past decade. Unknown ending?

Over the years, I’ve figured out a few things, but never Jackson. So when he calls out of nowhere to say Alice is awake. My first reaction is relief. A close second is terror. He says she can’t remember anything that happened ten years ago, but I’ve never had the benefit of forgetting—and it’s all because Jackson still has an unshakeable hold on my heart.

I don’t know what will happen next, but there’s no way it’s going to be good. I have way too many secrets and no hope of keeping them hidden much longer. With Jackson and I one eye fuck away from hooking up again, I’m that much closer to destroying the new life I’ve built for myself. The only thing I know for sure is…

Some secrets should never be kept, and nothing stays hidden forever. Continue reading

Escorting The Billionaire – Excerpt

Excerpt Banner

All I wanted was a date for my stupid asshole brother’s wedding.

Not a girlfriend. Not a relationship. A date.

No strings. No ties. No games.

No sex.

So when I called Elena at the escort service, I was very clear.

“I want someone beautiful. Who can function at high-society events,” I said. “She needs to be able to use her silverware properly and to be discreet. I can’t have someone who gets drunk and falls down in public. Also, no one who looks cheap. I don’t want a lot of makeup and big, fake boobs.”

“I don’t have any cheap-looking girls, Mr. Preston,” Elena said. “Unless the client is into that. Then I have plenty.” She laughed.  Continue reading

C.J. Lakes – A Hot Winter

A Hot Winter Bliss IconC.J. Lake is a storyteller who is passionate about art, surfing, and skiing/snowboarding. Residing near the coast of Massachusetts, C.J. is working on a new book that will feature Tragan Barrett’s friend, Matt Winter. In the meantime she is chatting with us about her smexy new novel A Hot Winter.

What was the inspiration for A Hot Winter?

I didn’t originally intend to write this story, but Matt and Emma seemed to have instant chemistry in my first book, Constructing Us, so I was compelled to explore them as a couple.  They ended up being perfect for each other (though it’s a ride to get there!).

What makes Matt & Emma such a great couple?

There’s a current of attraction between them when they first meet, but neither knows who the other is.  Once they discover the connection (to Tragan and Andy), they try to dial it back–especially once Matt begins work on Emma’s house.  But it’s virtually impossible not to be aware of each other or to keep their distance.  That initial attraction is always there–and building every time they’re together, despite Emma’s determination to keep things platonic.  Something that works in their favor is that while Matt is four years younger than Emma, he is strong and responsible, with a maturity and a protective nature–exactly what she needs!

If you had to choose, what is your favorite scene?

Well, here’s a very short excerpt from it:

“Jesus, Emma,” Matt rasped, pulling back just enough to look into her eyes.  “Why do you torture me?”

Gazing into those intense, dark eyes, Emma became overwhelmed by a longing that was almost painful.  She reached up and brushed her lips across his.  “I didn’t mean to,” she said softly, and it was the truth.  “Don’t go,” she whispered, digging her fingers into his hair and keeping him close.  Lightly she bit his lower lip.  “Don’t go…”

I love this whole scene; it’s erotic and emotional and represents a major turning point for Matt and Emma.  Also, it’s literally just the beginning of their first intense night together…

Can you pick a favorite quote?

Hmm…maybe this:

Being with Matt did something to her.  It brought back a younger version of herself, a younger time in her life.”

This is a theme that’s played implicitly throughout the story and a concept that Emma wrestles with and embraces at the same time.  She’s only twenty-seven, but has responsibilities that make her feel older and more settled than that.  Matt taps into her youthful, fun-loving spirit and almost makes Emma forget the reasons why they shouldn’t be together…
